In Indivisible Illinois Updates, Rural Illinois

Welcome to 2022!

We marched in 2016, took back the House in 2018, won the White House in 2020, and reclaimed the Senate in 2021. In 2022, we are up against a disinformation campaign fueled by the deep pockets of right wing billionaires. What they do not have is what we champion: truth, integrity and the diverse voices of the people who power our democracy. We are grateful for your continued engagement, support and collective action in the fight to protect our votes and our fundamental freedoms.

We are excited to introduce the new, 7:30pm Indivisible Illinois Community Collaborative–the new name for our weekly Wednesday calls. This is a weekly virtual meet-up for individuals across the state who are looking to strategize, learn and organize locally for electoral victories in the 2022 primary and general elections. We will kick off our meetings this Wednesday from 7:30pm to 9pm CT with our hosts from Indivisible Rural Illinois.

About Indivisible Rural Illinois:

The purpose of this group is to support each other as we go forward following the 2020 general election. It is clear that there is a sharp political divide between rural and suburban/urban Illinois. This has been true for a long time but there are many progressives living in rural areas.

Our project is two fold:  One, strategizing on how we can find like minded progressives in our communities. And, second, how to work toward informing our neighbors about what a progressive agenda really is.

Our Working Mission:  To amplify a progressive voice in rural Illinois and eventually flip rural Illinois from red to blue (although we acknowledge that this is a long-term goal).

Our Goals:  To build our groups, to encourage new groups in our geographic areas, to work to correct the narrative of who “progressives” are and what they stand for, to define the relationship between grassroots organizations and local Democratic party organizations, and to work toward policy changes that will benefit our areas.

Indivisible Illinois is part of the locally led, people-powered Indivisible Project network, a grassroots American movement founded in 2016, with thousands of chapters across the U.S. in urban, suburban and rural communities. Indivisible Illinois reflects the Heart of the Midwest by promoting an equity agenda in pursuit of liberty and justice for all. Our grassroots power comes from working in solidarity and in coalition with others. We do this through advocacy and direct action organizing for progressive issues and by electing progressive leaders.
