In Rural Illinois

Rural Illinois and the Census

Indivisible Illinois Rural Caucus meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. by Zoom.  RSVP HERE for our September 2, 2021 meeting.

The big news on the rural front is the recently released partial Census report.  Almost all the growth in population in the last 10 years has been in metropolitan areas.  People in smaller counties moved to larger, more urban counties.  Those of us who live in rural areas are aware that well educated, young, progressive people tend to leave rural areas in favor of cities when they enter college or the work force.   The reasons are multifaceted and obvious, but that fact leaves rural communities with older, more conservative, and less diverse populations.  The result is more work for progressive candidates and activists.  With fewer of us in number, we must work smarter and more strategically.   That is the purpose of our Indivisible Rural Illinois Caucus.   We hope you will join us on September 2 at 7:30 pm
