As all of our minds are on Georgia right now, we decided at last week’s meeting to learn a bit more about that state, particularly as it relates to voting and, of course, racism, two issues that are inextricably intertwined. I think sometimes it’s easy to write this topic off as “the South is racist,” when we know that our whole country was built upon the foundation of systemic racism (I still think a lot about the Sundown Towns right here in Illinois that we discussed a few months back) so let’s dig a bit deeper into more specifics.
This week’s topic: Georgia
Please consider any of the following articles before tomorrow’s meeting:

Antiracist action to take this week: Phonebank to GA
The best thing that we can do right now is help voters get to the polls for the January 5 election. Here are some opportunities to do that:
  • Join the Indivisible National phonebank on Wednesday, Dec 2 at 5pm CT to call into GA and help ensure that people are registered to vote ahead of the GA voter registration deadline of Dec 7. Sign up here.
  • Not that you need any more motivation to fight for Rafael Warnock, but please note that incumbent Kelly Loeffler is both anti-BLM and anti-transgender. Volunteer with the Warnock campaign here. Donate here.
  • And we won’t forget Jon Ossoff’s opponent, David Purdue and his racist dispronunciation of the name of our next Vice President, Kamala Harris. Sign up to phonebank with the Ossoff campaign here. Donate here.
