Coalition of 70 Midwest Groups From 11 States Send Letter to all Midwestern Senators, Call on Senate to end filibuster to pass voting rights

Washington, DC — Today, a coalition of 70 Midwestern groups and organizations representing 11 Midwestern states sent letters to their Republican and Democratic Senators urging them to pass voting rights legislation, eliminating the filibuster if Republicans refuse to cooperate.

The letter (text here) to Midwestern Republican Senators is clear: you must stop following Trump’s big lie about the 2020 election and join with Democrats to safeguard our democracy from voter suppression and election subversion. If you don’t, the grassroots will out-organize and replace you.

The letter (text here) to Midwestern Democratic Senators is also clear: you cannot let the filibuster, an arcane and oft-changed Senate procedure most famously used to block the passage of civil rights legislation, prevent you from safeguarding democracy. If Republicans refuse to cooperate and pass this crucial voting rights legislation, you must eliminate the filibuster to pass the bill.

ABOUT THE INDIVISIBLE PROJECT

The Indivisible Project (501c4) is a social movement non-profit driven by a vision of a real democracy – of, by, and for the people. Indivisible began in 2016 as a viral guide to resisting Trump’s agenda. Today, the Indivisible movement is a network of thousands of local groups and millions of activists across every state. The Indivisible Project drives campaigns for bold progressive policies, lobbies Congress, and equips activists with tools to build lasting progressive power, everywhere. Together, we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and build an inclusive democracy.
